The Southville project stemmed from our discovery of mysterious marks around the town. Often overlooked, these marks inspired us to communicate possible hidden stories and help us understand the society and culture of the area.
We sought to highlight the everyday marks which are easy missed by creating labels and framing the marks. Transforming them into intriguing pieces of art, capturing public attention and prompting curiosity.
The remaining art is often easily washed away and shows the daily life of an area, showing the layers of complexity before it inevitably gets sanitised.
The exhibition guide raised awareness and prompted viewers to consider the marks' artistic value, context and story.
We compiled an exhibition guide featuring all the marks and their possible stories, emphasising that imperfections contribute to the beauty and narrative of a place.
The project highlighted the importance of noticing and valuing the often-missed details in our surroundings, celebrating creative thinking and finding beauty in life's imperfections.
