Ham Hill's
pop-up museum

The Ham Hill Project, titled "Uncovering Ham Hill’s Past for Its Future," serves as a testament to the importance of preserving and educating the community about Somerset's rich heritage. As part of the project, I played a crucial role in the design and promotion efforts that significantly enhanced public engagement with the site.

My contributions included the creation of five A1 information boards, signs, posters, and an illustrative calendar showcasing the daily summer events. These materials were instrumental in promoting the Ham Hill Pop-up Museum, which became a resounding success, attracting 2,622 visitors and engaging 1,424 participants through 40 educational activities.

The project's impact went beyond visitor numbers; it fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of Ham Hill's heritage. The pop-up museum educated local residents about the archaeological significance of Ham Hill, one of Europe's largest Iron Age hillforts, and emphasised the importance of protecting and preserving the site for future generations.

The feedback gathered from visitors highlighted the need for continued enhancement of the site. This led to plans for developing a new visitor centre and café, ensuring that Ham Hill remains a vibrant and accessible destination.

In essence, the Ham Hill Project not only celebrated the site's rich heritage but also laid the groundwork for its future preservation and enjoyment. Through thoughtful design and promotion, we successfully encouraged more people to explore, appreciate, and contribute to the ongoing conservation of Ham Hill.
